I am running MS XP Home SP-2.Have installed TrendMicro PC-cillin anti-virus and firewall: also installed are SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, Spybot- Search and Destroy, AdAware SE-Personel,and Microsoft Antispyware.I completed all the steps in the preparation guide for use before poating a Hijackthis Log. About 10 days ago, the LAN and Activity lights on my DSL modem began to falsh constantly, wheather I was logged on a browser or not. I contacted my internet provider and first response was probably a defective modem. They provided a replacement modem: problem remained unchanged. After several sessions with their tech help section, their conclusion was a probable spyware infection: most likely a dialer. I would appreciate any help you might provide.

Hello Hendry,

I am not seeing anything apparent in your log that would indicate a dialer infection, let's run a virus scan and see what it picks up.

Perform an onlinescan with Panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a few minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report together a fresh HijackThis log

Hello Hendry,

Please delete the following file:

D:\Documents and Settings\Henry Hamil\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\iwc21fb7.default\cookies.txt

We will also check for a rootkit, but I am thinking this is not malware related. Especially since dialers only affect Dial Up connections, your ISP should know that.

If a rootkit scan reveals nothing then I will move this thread into the proper forum for you.

***

Download Blacklight to your desktop:

Now double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

***

Download WinPFind!
  • Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.
  • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode
  • Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
  • When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer.
  • Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed.
  • Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

If you are happy with the service I provided, please consider making a donation to help me continue the fight against Malware Posted Image

Please do not PM me asking for support. My first reply will direct you to the forums instead.
Please post the final results, good or bad. We like to know!

This is the result from the Jotti's malware scan

The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file

Hello Hendry,

First, please delete the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\RMAgentOutput.dll

Next, please use windows search and see if it finds this file: ws2947911.dll

Also, is your DSL modem still constantly flashing? After you turn on the computer how soon does it start doing that?

I deleted the RMAgentOutput.dll file
I found a copy of ws2947911.dll in My Documents on D drive, my backup drive.
The DSL modem flashes constantly, even when the computer is turned off. Sorry, I should have included that in my origional post.

Hello Hendry,

Ok, if the modem is flashing when the computer is off then it's definitely not malware related.

I assume you already went over this with tech support, but you tried all the basics like unplugging the modem and such, right?

Also, would it be possible to send that file, ws2947911.dll to me? My email is ownt AT cox DOT net <-- replace at with @ and dot with .

Tech Support was unable to provide and help. The suggested taking the system to a computer repair service.Maybe moving it to networking may be best.
