Hello there Bleeper community!

My Problem exists for about 2 month now, that was about the time that my old graphic board break down and i used an old one of a friend of mine. Now i have a new one, but the problem still exists. I should have a 6mbit broadband connection, but by running several speedtests it seems to only run with 0.1 up to 0.5 (on good days only) mbit/s. I allready connected my Provider but they said i should be able to use the full broadband. Afterwards i tried to find out if my system is infected.

I am using Mozilla Firefox as a browser (always up to date), my usuall Antivirus program is the free version of Avira Antivir (also always up to date, but browser security is not working) and my firewall is Zonealarm by Checkpoints Software (also i try to keep it updated). I started searching for my Problem and found that Spyware Terminator is supposed to be a good Antimal/-ad-/-spyware program and downloaded it. It did find several infections and removed them, but still my internet is running very slowly. I also checked my Hardware and cleaned the computer. Then i found HijackThis but i am not sure about the outcome of the scan.
It seems like there are a lot of toolbars and addons activated which i want to deactivate, but i did not find out how to manage it by now.

I would realy appreciate it if you guys could tell me how to interpret the log and if i need to delete something or not... or if i have to do the complete roundhouse kick and reinstall windows.

Thanks for now and hopefully you can help me,

JustAMicrobe aka Pascal

Edit: Almost forgot, i also defragmentated (is this correct?) my harddrive and let CCleaner run through.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/424560 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Hello, Welcome to BleepingComputer.
I'm nasdaq and will be helping you.

If you can please print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.
===

[*]Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://vshare.toolbarhome.com/?hp=df

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis

Restart the computer normally.
===

Please download and run this DDS Scanning Tool. Nothing will be deleted. It will just give me some additional information about your system.

Posted Image
Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

Please just paste the contents of the DDS.txt log in your next post.
===

Third party programs if not up to date can be the cause infiltration of an infection.

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here.
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
===

Please post the logs and let me know if the problem persists.

Hello there Nasdaq,

First of all thanks for your time and that you try to help me! As you responded and wrote something different than the HelpBot i did not creat a GMER log. And i dont understand your first instruction...

[*]Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://vshare.toolbarhome.com/?hp=df

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis

I dont know what you mean or how to "place a check" against the R0-. Or i just dont know how its done... if you mean a manually check by myself or if you mean to let HijackThis do it, if yes how :-(
But i created a DDS log and i let security check run. Here are the logs:

The slow internet connection is kinda still persisting... but as i got a new provider now it should be 32mb and not 6mb like in the topic discribed. But i only got 27mb (yes i know that it might be slower because of traffic and all that, but i still got the feeling that something is wrong with my computer and i dont understand what)

By the way when i started the computer today it opened bleepingcomputer.com from automatically as well as a folder + the mozilla firefox history. But i know that i closed everything before i shut down the computer! After i closed mozilla and the folder the internet connection got lost and i had to reboot the modem as well as the computer! This was the first time it happened...

Hopefully the logs will help you to help me :-D realy realy thanks a lot!
Greetings and bye bye!

Sorry about the bad instructions.

Now that I have seen a DDS log lets use this tool.

Please download ComboFix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop. For information regarding this download, please visit this web page: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

IMPORTANT....

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Do not install any other programs until this if fixed.

How to : Disable Anti-virus and Firewall...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt
Note:
Do not mouse click ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note: If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link --> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html

Please post the log and let me know what problem persists.

Secure your system by updating 3rd party programs.

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 27.
  • In the box labeled "Java Platform, Standard Edition", click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select Windows (or Windows x64), and check the "agree" box and click "Continue".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your Desktop.
  • Then from your Desktop double-click on jre-6u27-windows-i586.exe that you have downloaded to install the newest version.

For the x64 bit version download this on jre-6u27-windows-x64.exe). Make sure you download the corrent version.

    - Note: If you are running Vista or Windows 7, you may need to right-click on the installation file and select Run as Administrator.

If present remove the old version(s) of Java using the Add/Remove Programs applet.

Java™ 6 Update 24
