Hey, so my computer has been BSODing for about 2 months now and I can't figure out why. The Blue Screen View always displays ntkrnlpa.exe as one of the crash addresses but even after research, I can't figure out what to do or exactly what is causing it, as I know that's a Windows kernel. I don't really know what changed back when it started or what drivers were installed at that time. I originally thought it was an external harddrive I got around that time but I think I bought that after the problems started and I've now noticed that the computer crashes even when the HD's not plugged in. It crashes even when I leave my computer on over night. Here's the Minidump log from the past 2 months:

Here's the Minidump log from the past 2 months:

Hi jeeberz. Have you tried System Restore? Checked for issues with HDD and memory?

Also, what rig are you having issues with?

Bludgard, yeah I did try System Restore although it didn't go back very far. I have a lot of new hardware in my computer as well so I feel it couldn't be memory, unless it's driver associated.

My rig is a ACPI x86-based PC with a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 which I updated last night just in case as it sometimes happens after I watch a video (never during though, oddly enough). Intel Dual Core 2.40GHz. 3 GB memory.

It crashed again today. Here is the new minidump.

That error is often caused by a driver issue. Go to the websites of the various hardware manufacturers of your devices (video, audio, and either computer mfg or mobo mfg and get the latest chipset driver) and download and install the latest drivers. Do not get the drivers in any other manner or from any other location. Last, check for a bios update.

Also, please look in device manager - any yellow or red symbols?

Allan, thanks for your response. I tried to update from the device manager a while ago but 2 days ago manually updated my graphics card. For audio, it just says "High Definition Audio Device (speakers)" and MFG is ACPI x86 so I'm not sure where to go for that. Not able to find an update for either.
Also not sure how to update my Bios and I know it can be fatal. It's a Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG. Any ideas?

No red or yellows tho in the device manager.

It also crashed again last night. Basically the same dump. No new information.

Okay, don't worry about the sound card. Go to the website of your computer manufacturer and check for a bios update.

I'm not really sure how to do that since this is a custom computer.

Then go to the website of your bios provider and look for a bios update.

The website only offered a way in which I would have to pay for the update. Can you walk me through another way?

This was the BIOS info Pheonix gave me.

BIOS Type: Phoenix-Award
BIOS Date: March 5th 2007
BIOS ID: 03/05/2007-C55-MCP51-P5N-ESLI-00-None
BIOS OEM: ASUS P5N-E SLI ACPI BIOS Revision 0505 - ASUS P5N-E SLI ACPI BIOS Revision 0505
Chipset: VIA 82C3044 rev 192
SuperIO: Unknown
Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.
Motherboard: P5N-E SLI

Am I just going to have to pay for the update?

It has continued to crash. I have noticed that streaming video seems to agitate the issue (even though it does it randomly still), since it's more likely to happen when multiple videos are open. I dunno if that helps.

I think we have a good case for collecting some more information about what might be going on here.

:step1: Please follow the instructions: BSOD Posting Instructions: Windows 7 - Vista

(Note: When you run BSOD_Windows7_Vista_v2.64_jcgriff2_.exe, it will also run autoruns.exe ... and both need to be in the same location!)
... with one exception in the following line:
  • "4. Zip up the entire output folder + PERFMON and attach the zip file to your next post."
The BC forums will allow a total attachment size of only 512 kb (and what you need to attach will exceed this limit). Please upload the zip file to a file sharing website of your choice and and post a link to it in this thread so that we can access your uploaded zip file. I will have a look at the contained information and see if I can shed some light on your BSOD issue.

See the suggestions in the following links for recommendations on file sharing websites:

:step2: Please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy, and post a link to it in this thread.
  • It is a convenient and accurate way of providing us with details of your computer specifications.

I also ran Driver Verifier per step 6 and it did indeed BSOD. I restored to my restore point, and there was no Minidump for it.
