Dear Bleeping Computer,
Hope you can help.
I have a logfile produced from a run of HijackThis 1.97 attached below.
My homepage is being hijacked, and a goup of a dozen or so url's being added to my favorites panel. I have run spybot, ad-aware6.0, both recently downloaded, and various other software. Ad-aware seems to find the offending website, which I then remove, but they re-appear a few minutes later ant the homepage is once again hijacked. This happens even if not connected to the internet. It seems to occurs when the 'connect' panel flashes up on the screen.
Anyway I have included 2 logs, one from a run of Hijack prior to running ad-aware, and another log following. As mentioned thou, the offending '4counter' website re-installs itself in a matter of minutes.... Help ! !
I'd be grateful if you could advise which items I should check to remove from the Hijack logs below.... Many thanks, Gerry.

You are infected with a variant of the CoolWebSearch.

Download CWShredder from the below link and unzip it into a directory. Start CWShredder and click on the FIx button to have it remove all CWS infections it finds.

Download CWShredder from:

http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip

or

http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/index.html

After you download the program, unzip it into a directory. Make sure all browser windows are closed and double click on the cwshredder.exe to start the program. When the program is loaded click on the "Check for Update" button, and if it finds an new version it will download it. You should then double click on cwshredder.exe again and click on the "FIX" button (not the "Scan only" button) and let it scan your computer.

To get the best results it is recommended that you run it in safe mode. Reboot windows and press F8 at boot/windows startup, usually right after the beep. Then select safe mode.

A tutorial that goes over this process step by step can be found here:

How to remove CoolWebSearch with CoolWeb Shredder

Once that is completed you should post a new hijackthis log.

Thanks.....
We came across CWShredder and ran it prior to your suggestion. YES, it did fix the problem, and it was nice to see you reported the same solution. Many many thanks for you advice.
I will post the new log as requested shortly.... Gerry.
