When I hit the enter button on the number pad of my keyboard it does not enter - but types the letter "a". Language and everything is set fine - all the other keys work fine.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Can you try this keyboard (assuming it is not a laptop) on another computer to see if it does the same thing?
If it does I would replace it. Keyboards are pretty cheap.
In the beginning there was the command line.
