OS is XP Pro 32bit
This started off with all the icons on the desktop disappearing. I got that back. Everything seems to be working right except for windows firewall shutting off on its own and iexplore running periodically in the background. Also getting a MS window telling me it needs to shut down IE (in spite of IE being used), followed by the MS error reporting message, asking me to Send or Don't Send. Finally, upon startup I get a message telling me that SOCKETX.OCX is not registered.

Things done so far, both in safe mode and regular mode:
CCleaner
SUPERantispyware
Malwarebytes
Spybot
Avira Virus scan
Unhide.exe

I'm using Chrome to input this information. Just now, I got an MS error message telling me that IE has encountered a problem and needs to close. The technical information is available if needed. Thanks ahead of time!
