It worked fine with 2000 Pro. I have lowered the security and enabled scripts in IE. Any ideas?

It should.
It did in mine.

Just a note on the download-

When I got Java,I got it from http://www.filehippo.com/download_java_runtime/.

It seems to work better than the download at java.com.
And it is the latest version.
I've never had a problem with File Hippo.
They usually have the latest updates.
Not always though.
Their Java update is the latest version.
