Greetings,
My system locked up and I rebooted. Upon reboot I got the startup repair tool or start windows normally. Choosing the repair tool, I end up with a black screen with a mobile pointer. C/alt/del and s/alt/esc do nothing. I reboot and press f8. I get all repair options, nothing works. When I try to go into safe mode, the screen freezes at avgidseh.sys. When I try to start it normally i get a micro flash blue screen with UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. only caught this by recording the screen on my phone and pressing play and pause until I caught it. Repeated tries with the start up repair, no glory. Tried EVERY selection in the boot up options. Safe mode, with command prompt, restore, recovery, repair, name it. Always gives me the blue flash with the same msg, unmountable boot volume. There is no disk with this computer, unfortunately its on the partition. Any suggestions besides C4 (I have already considered that).

Try running the chkdsk /r command on the boot partition. That usually solves the Unmountable Boot Volume error.

How do I get to checkdisk when I cant get the computer to boot? Safe mode isnt an option, hangs at the avg file, recovery same thing, everything hangs there and I get the black screen with white mouse pointer if I go any other route. If there is another super secret ninja squirrel way into this, please do tell the secret, I promise to keep it safe

If you cannot boot into Vista...seems to me your only options are

a. Borrow a MS XP CD and run the chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console available on that disk.

b. Follow the eMachines technique for resolving problems...and do a factory restore to defaults, http://support.gateway.com/emachines/desktop/2009/gateway/dx/dx4300/DX4710faq6.shtml
