At first my Google search results were redirecting me to junk adverstising sites. I ran scans using both Panda Global Protection 2010 and MalwareBytes and both find different malware objects. Malware bytes reported that it found Trojan.SHarpo.Gen malware objects and a Trojan.BHO malware object. Malware bytes required a reboot to complete the cleanup of the malware. Upon rebooting the system Panda reported that it blocked a suspicious program from doing a dangerous operation. After the reboot, the Panda log reported that it blocked the MBAM.exe program, however another scan of MalwareBytes showed no malware objects. Shortly after, the symptoms returned and I ran MalwareBytes again and this time it reported it found a Backdoor.bot malware object. After cleaning with MalwareBytes and rebooting the symptoms returned. I ran MalwareBytes again and this time it found multiple Backdoor.bot malware objects and a Trojan.Exploit.Drop malware object. I tried cleaning and rebooting but now IE stops responding after a short while and I get errors starting up Windows XP that my Pervasive Workgroup database engine components won't load. Now my applications that use Pervasive will not run. I ran the DDS and GMER logs and attached them to this post. Here is the DDS.txt log: Can anyone help me remove this malware permanently?

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Somethings to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • please Do not Attach logs or put in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.
  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!

Click on the Watch Topic Button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

My computer locked up and would not shut down normally. Upon rebooting the machine, my desktop had no icons and no wallpaper. I got a bunch of cascading error messages and a fake system restore program popped up and started a scan. I could not cancel or close the fake system restore program. I clicked on the start menu and there were no items on the start menu except shut down. I shut down the computer and rebooted in safe mode. There were no icons on the desktop in safe mode and the start menu also had no items except shut down. I then booted my system using my Panda system recovery CD I had made earlier and started a scan. After scanning my system for a while it appears that my system is locked up again and no malware was found up until the system locked up. Any suggestions? Do I need to reinstall Windows?

I can boot into safe mode, however there are no icons on my desktop and there are no items on my start menu except shut down. If I boot into safe mode with command prompt and do a dir command, no files or directories are listed except a 0 byte file called ntuser.tmp I don't think I can run any programs.

I tried booting into safe mode with networking but I don't know how to download or run combofix. There are no icons on my desktop and no items on my start menu except 'Shut Down'. I downloaded combofix from another machine but don't know how to run it on the problem machine.

I found out that the malware had set the hidden attribute on all my files and folders. Once I cleared the hidden attribute I was able to see me files and run some programs. I booted into safe mode and then disabled all the protections on my Panda Global Protection 2010 software and then started Combofix, however Combofix reported that the following realtime scanner is active: antivirus: Panda Global Protection 2010. I tried to run the Windows Security Center but it reported that the Security Center is unavailable because the "Security Center" service has not started. How can I disable Panda without uninstalling it? I thought I had disabled it since Panda reported that the antivirus, firewall, and all the other protection options were disabled. What should I check to ensure that my real-time anti-virus scanner is disabled? I still can not see the control panel icon on my start menu.
