Hi guys,

My flatmates antivirus has been expired since August '05, he complained of his laptop running really slowly.
I've uninstalled Norton 2005 and installed avast instead, along with Ad-Aware SE and Spybot.
avast is displaying a lot of warnings for this: Win32:Agent-FR [Trj] and Win32:Trojan-gen. As well as srshost.exe and tdev.dll located in the system32 folder.
Had a problem with Norton scanning outgoing emails too; when I first turned it on (he doesn't use it much), connected to the net, I got alot of messages saying 'my' email to 'insert random U.K email address' with subject 'something to do with nature', has been blocked...
My apologies if if this doesn't make alot of sense haha

When I run avast! it does the memory test and declares the operating memory infected.. can't get it to scan anymore.
Ran Ad-Aware, it froze about half way through and that was the end of that.
Spybot congratulated me on having no immediate threats...

I've yet to download anything else like MS Antispyware because I'm on dial-up and its taking forever
But anyway, here's the HJT log.

Cheers!

Hi 90sir and Welcome to the Bleeping Computer!

I need a look at some files from your system please.

Download this program:

Submit Files Packer
http://www.safer-networking.org/files/sfp.zip

Highlight the entries listed below in bold and right-click,then select Copy.

C:\pnyaaaaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\pnyaaaaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pnyaaaaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdev.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkgncwkx.dll

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example Monster.cab).

Then go to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button.

Next,Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient

Once you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder

Restart Normal-> Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK!

Under the "General" Tab

Make Sure "Normal Startup-load all device drivers and services" has a green tick by it

Click Apply->Close->Follow the Prompts to Restart

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the reports from WinPFind and RootKitRevealer

Hi mate, thanks for your help! :-)

I've submitted the files you asked for, fingerscrossed I've done it right.

This morning I had another crack at running Ad-Aware, it found winl0gon.exe and srshostu.exe; which it has apparently removed.

I've done everything you suggested, here's the new HJT log:

Unfortunatly the files didnt upload for some reason.

You can go back to the upload Site and either use the browse tab or just paste the entries into the open box beside the browse tab and then click send file.

They should upload that way.

Give it a try and let me know, since there is little info on 2 of the 3,my instincts say they all stink.

I did a search on the comp but it couldn't locate any of these, the closest I could find was a prefetch file called PNYAAAAA.EXE-02D310B2.pf, which I've uploaded on the site you gave me

C:\pnyaaaaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\pnyaaaaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pnyaaaaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkgncwkx.dll

I found this C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdev.dll and went to copy it but it wouldn't let me because it's in use.. Am I doing it right? lol

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdev.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkgncwkx.dll
    C:\pnyaaaaa.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\pnyaaaaa.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\pnyaaaaa.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Select Delete on Reboot and Unregister .dll before Deleting
  • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Restart in Safe Mode and Open Killbox.

Copy&Paste each entry above,one at a time,into Killbox.

As you paste each entry in,place a tick by any of these selections available

"Standard File Kill"
"End Explorer Shell while Killing File"
"Unregister .dll before Deleting"

Click the Red Circle with the White X in the Middle to Delete

Open HijackThis-> Click "Do a System Scan Only" and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet

O2 - BHO: CIEPl Object - {F85E86D8-F796-4C97-AAA2-26664A98A42C} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdev.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows System] pnyaaaaa.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Windows System] pnyaaaaa.exe

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkgncwkx.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: tdev - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tdev.dll

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work

Save the Report it generates

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the report from Panda

I'll assume that because it couldn't find the other files that it worked?

Allright, since the Online Scan and the file dont want to cooperate, lets try another route.

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
  • Exit ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

Now run the CleanUp program:

*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

Running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
  • Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
    • Delete Cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No
  • Close CleanUp
Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Restart Normal and Post the Ewido Report along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Once the list loads-> Click "Save List"

I'm going to guess that you want me to boot into safemode and uninstall SmileyDistrict Optimizer?

Sorry Sir,I got called out of town on emergency buisness.

Believe me,ID rather have been here helping you!

Go into Safe Mode-> Go to Add\Remove Programs and Remove-> SmileyDistrict Optimizer

It may give you a bit of static when trying to remove but it will go none the less.

Once removed, post back with a fresh HijackThis log and a HijackThis Uninstall log.
