Pentium 4, 1.37 GB, 3.00 GHz.
Two multi-partition IDE disk drives & 1 SATA drive.
Multi-boot system: Win XP SP3 & Win 2000.

Problem with: MS Win XP Pro, version 2002, SP3

Both Windows Explorer and PowerQuest File browser have occassional errors causing them to abort, in Win XP only.
The drive for which this happens (so far) is the SATA drive, & it shows no errors in chkdsk.
No problems when running Win 2000. (So far.)

Win XP:
I have enabled access to the Administrator account at sign-on (added a key to the registry), and use that for login.
Trying to restore previous check points (Single data partition SATA drive connected at first, then not connected).
I have tried more than a half dozen dates, spanning the entire range available, with the same results: In the first boot-up following the restore an error note saying (roughly) "... could not restore system at <<date>>".
I have done this both from an ordinary boot, and in safe mode.
((I suspect safe mode option is done for the extra entry point, not a difference in functionality. Is that so?))

Is there anything else I should try?

usually when any restore point fails corruption in the system restore point folder

if you have a Windows XP disc (this command may ask for the disc)

Run a administrative command prompt

type in sfc /scannow

What are you trying to restore to and what?
