My computer was hijacked by something that opens a browser window which usually has the url "www.testendonline.com", though there are other names that come up too. It keeps me from doing searches in google (redirects results), has changed my desktop settings, affects computer audio, and stops certain applications from running. Perhaps it's more than one virus? I read a post about something like it and tried the suggested steps. I ran mini toolbox, and then tried to run Malwarebytes. When I start the scan with Malwarebytes, it lasts up to 30 seconds or so and then disappears. I ran rkill first and tried again with the same results. I tried renaming it as well as downloading it to a disk from another computer and running it. I ran it in safe mode where it completed and found/removed 4 infections. Upon restarting in normal mode I tried to scan again and it still disappeared after around 30 seconds. I use Windows Vista and Firefox. Also, I keep getting threat detection alerts from my AVG program about Exploit Blackhole Exploit Kit infections. I am at a loss on how to get rid of this bug.

With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team. I would like you to start a new thread HERE and include a link to this thread.

Please make sure that you read the information about getting started before you start your thread.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

I have been trying to follow the steps in the preparation guide, but have had trouble with it. I did a backup and the readout showed mostly errors. I then just moved files manually to an external disk. I tried to enable Windows firewall but was unable to do so. I ran Defogger but it did not ask me to reboot, so I guess I either don't have any CD emulation programs or it didn't work properly. I tried to run DDS which said that it should take no longer than 3 minutes. After 30 minutes it still did not give any results and my computer locked up. I restarted and tried again with the same result. I tried to run GMER and it opens up for a few seconds and then disappears. That pretty much covers the steps I was supposed to take before posting, but I don't have any of the information necessary.

Hello, skip the GMER step.
Please download OTL by OldTimer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other applications and windows so that you have nothing open.
  • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.

Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
If you receive a UAC prompt asking if you would like to continue running the program, you should press the Continue button.
  • Under Output, ensure that Minimal Output is selected.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
Leave the remaining selections to the default settings.
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Do not use the computer while the scan is in progress.
  • When the scan is complete, two log files will open in Notepad:
    • OTListIt.txt <- (will be maximized)
    • Extras.txt <- (will be minimized in the Task Bar).
  • Both logs are automatically saved to the Desktop.
  • Please copy and paste the contents of OTListIt.txt and Extras.txt in your next reply.
If the Extras.txt log is too long, you may need to add a second reply to your thread or upload it as an attachment.
  • Click the red X in the upper right corner to exit OTL.
Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run. If OTL did not work, then reply back here.

OTL disappears when I click "run scan". Then it won't open again.

One more try...
If you cannot get DDS to work, please try this instead.

Please download RSIT by random/random from the link provided for your operating system and save it to your desktop.
Link 1 for 32-bit version
Link 2 for 32-bit version

Link 1 for 64-bit version
Link 2 for 64-bit versionThis tool needs to run while the computer is connected to the Internet. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding RSIT attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.

  • Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.
  • Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Read the disclaimer and click Continue.
  • When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad.
  • Another text file named info.txt will open minimized.
  • Save the log files to your desktop and copy/paste the contents of log.txt by highlighting everything and pressing Ctrl+C.
  • After highlighting, right-click, choose Copy and then paste the contents into a new topic in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here.
  • Copies of both log files are automatically saved in the C:\RSIT folder which the tool creates during the scan.
-- Note: Do not post the contents of info.txt in your reply. Instead, just include it as an attachment to upload using the "Browse" button in the text editor when making your reply.

Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run. If RSIT did not work, then reply back here.

If still no joy then create a new topic in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum. Post a link bac k to this Topic.

RSIT.exe worked partially. It disappeared about halfway through the process. It created a log.txt but not an info.txt. I will now post that in the other forum as per instructions.

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRL Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

The current wait time is 3 - 5 days and ALL logs are amswered.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
