I have already read about this topic under your virus forum and could not find it here so here goes...
Internet explorer seems to browse the internet except when I try to go to google.com
Other PC's here resolve google.com to 209.85.148.106 but the problem child resolves to 87.125.87.103
I end up getting a "can not display page" screen.
I deleted the etc/hosts file and windows did not seem to re-create it. Only when I ran immunize thru spybot did hosts get created.
I will attach an OTS file as was done in the prior thread but I do not see that option right now. Maybe if I edit my post afterwards I will be able to attach it. Sorry can't find the attach file option.

Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.

* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

=============================================================================

Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result.

=============================================================================

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-malware/ to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Be sure to restart the computer.

The log can also be found here:

Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
    This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
    This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

First off I have run Malwarebytes, Spybot, Superantispyware, hijackthis, MS Security essentials and am certain I have no active viruss but admit I could be wrong. None of these have found anything but cookies over the last 3 or 4 scans. I can get to Google.com by typing in their IP address (209.85.148.106) so this issue is limited to DNS resolution issues.

I am running the programs I have not ran already and will edit this post to include their results. But I still do not see how to attach a file.

Results of screen317's Security Check version 0.99.7
Windows XP Service Pack 3
Internet Explorer 8
``````````````````````````````
Antivirus/Firewall Check:
Windows Firewall Enabled!
Microsoft Security Essentials
Antivirus up to date!
```````````````````````````````
Anti-malware/Other Utilities Check:

MVPS Hosts File
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
CCleaner
Java™ 6 Update 23
Out of date Java installed!
Adobe Flash Player 10.3.181.34
Adobe Reader 9.4.2
Adobe Reader X (10.0.1)
Mozilla Firefox (x86 en-US..) Firefox Out of Date!
````````````````````````````````
Process Check:
Windows Defender MSMpEng.exe
Microsoft Security Essentials msseces.exe
Microsoft Security Client Antimalware MsMpEng.exe
Microsoft Security Client Antimalware MpCmdRun.exe
``````````End of Log````````````

I LEFT HOSTS FILE UNCHECKED AS SPYBOT ADD TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ENTRIES AND I HAVE DELETED THIS FILE MULTIPLE TIMES AND AS I MENTIONED WINDOWS/IE DOES NOT SEEM TO RECREATE IT. I WAS THINKING ITS LOCATION MAY BE REDIRECTED AND IS THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE 87.125.87.103 RESOLVES TO FUBAR.COM WHICH HAS OBVIOUSLY SHUT DOWN WHATEVER PAGE WAS AT THAT LOCATION.

Oh, and I've already tried "ipconfig /flushdns"

DUH! Think I found it.
I ran Kaspersky's rootkit TDSSKiller and found

FORGED FILE
acpi
UNSIGNED FILE
iaStor
mhndrv
RTL8187B

RTL 8187 is a Real Tech driver...audio I think.
Wondering what removing these files will do to my boot up....will let you know.

Do nothing about it.
This is more serious.

With the information you have provided I believe you will need help from the malware removal team.
Please make sure that you read the information about getting started first.
Then start a new thread HERE and include or required logs.
Including a link to this thread will be helpful.

Good luck and be patient. Help is on the way!

ISSUE RESOLVED!

After copying another copy of system32\drivers\ACPI.sys to that folder as ASPI.new then removing the HDD and putting it on another computer as a secondary drive i renamed ASPI.sys to ASPI.bad and ASPI.new to ASPI.sys.

Problem solved.

Thanks

Forgot to mention TDSSKiller DID NOT find this issue in standard mode as I had already run it. I had to change parameters to "detect TDLFS" and verify driver signatures.
