Hi! Thanks in advance. I caught a fake anti-malware program in the act and ran MBAM without rebooting first hoping that would kill it. MS Sec Essentials also detected it. Files were deleted but I still have problems, my TCPIP stack is in ruins, IPSec and computer is hanging on desktop load for several minutes, I cannot enable my firewall either.
I had some experience with malware and I <sigh I know> ran latest combofix and it detected Rootkit.Zeroaccess quickly. It rebooted, then started scanning disk, got to 50 and got a BSOD. Bad_Pool_Header 0x00000019. I have run GMER and instantly got the same BSOD, 0x00000019.
Sorry, I should have come here first.
Here is the DDS log posted and attach.txt attached. I havent been asked, but here also is attached the MBAM log that I got when I first ran it and thought it was removed. Also, MS Security Essentials identified the IPSec driver as infected with TrojanDropper:Win32/Sirefef.B
( Container File c:\windows\sys32\drivers\ipsec.sys ->[obfuscator.PN]
I'm using another computer and a thumb drive. I hope you can help me and I haven't screwed things up by not coming here first.

Forgot to mention, I did run defogger before the GMER and ComboFix scans

EDIT: I uninstalled the program anydvd. It emulates a drive, and even though it was not running, the driver elbycdio.sys was evidently causing the BSOD's. GMER and CF work now. Apparently defogger does not affect this program?

I appear to have gotten rid of the virus now, but I'm not sure. combofix deleted some stuff that it couldnt get to before. Now my problem is IPSEC and TCPIP are completely missing. This means no internet, no firewall, no lots of stuff. What should I do now?

Thanks

nevermind i fixed it. All's good now.
Thanks anyway

It appears that this issue is resolved, therefore I am closing the topic. If that is not the case and you need or wish to continue with this topic, please send me or any Moderator a Personal Message (PM) that you would like this topic re-opened.

Hi Gringo, I guess you want me to start from the beginning again. The DDS log from a few days ago is already posted above, but the computer is different now. I already killed the Guard Online virus, and it was apparently bundled with ZeroAccess rootkit which damaged my networking drivers (it hooked IPSEC) TCPIP etc. But, as requested, I will go ahead and run and post new logs. For the record, in order to restore my networking problem, I ran a repair install w/ my XP SP2 disk without slipstreaming the service pack files, so I dont know if thats why the drivers aren't working or what.
It didn't fix a thing!! :-p
But, thats just about the limit of my experience, so I will start at the beginning to be safe, and to be sure. Here goes, per your request. Thanks again.

I'm using a thumbdrive to transfer these files to the damaged computer's desktop from this one, since it has no networking anymore.

For the Record:: LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT ME TO POST THE OLDER LOGS I ALREADY MADE, I HAVE THEM STILL. THE LOGS BELOW WERE MADE TODAY. Thanks! Some of the evidence below indicates digging around in the WPA password file, that was me using Nirsoft tool to recover my wireless key when I was trying to fix the networking. Alos, the funny process name created down there somewhere was combofix which I renamed to something random to try to protect it. Again, read the original post, and let me know if you want the older logs for combo fix. The original dds post and attachment are probably more accurate then these. Sorry for the mess...

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Gringo

Gringo: I got the virus on the ninth. I have the original combofix log from the first removal of zero.access. This below, however, is the log from this morning.... Networking is broken, and MS Security Esentials is also broken.. I cant uninstall it because the virus damaged it, and I cant download the wrap-up file I need to do the uninstall. However, it is disabled and so shouldn't interfere with combofix.. Log will be posted in about five minutes..
BTW-- for anyone having BSOD problems with GMER etc. : DeFogger does -not- disable the anyDVD driver, (at least not for me) and will cause a BSOD. So if you have anyDVD be sure to uninstall it.
BUT OF COURSE: be sure to run that by your malware helper first of course, I'm just relating my own experience
--------

Hello

lets try this to get you back online, let me know if it works

Download and run WinSockFix. This is a two step process that will Back up the Registry and Reset the Winsock Stack.
  • Double click on WinsockXPFix.exe to open.
  • On the Winsock and TCP Repair Utility screen, click "ReG-Backup"
  • On the ERDNT Welcome screen, click "OK".
  • On the Backup to: screen, click "OK".
  • On the Folder does not exist question screen click "Yes".
  • You will see a status screen as your registry is being backed up.
  • On the Registry backup is complete! screen, click "OK" and you will go back to the main window.
  • On the Winsock and TCP Repair Utility screen, click "Fix".
  • On the Apply the VB_Winsock fix? screen click "Yes".
  • The screen will display a status message "repair completed please reboot."
  • On the Repair Completed screen click "OK" to reboot your computer.
  • If your computer was not using DHCP, you will need to reconfigure TCP/IP.
  • You should have connectivity restored.
If you have internet back come back and let me know if not go to next step

Download LSPFix and save to your desktop.
alternate download site
alternate download site
  • Disconnect from the Internet, go to the LSPfix file and extract (unzip) LSP-Fix into its own folder such as C:\lspfix. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 9x/2000 users click here.
  • Open the lspfix folder and double-click on LSPFix.exe to start the program.
  • Check the "I know what I am doing" checkbox.
  • Click "Finish" and LSPfix will restore the chain numbers.
  • restart the computer

Hi.. WinSock Fix said error when creating backup. The folder was created and then it stopped right there.

I ran it anyway I hope that wasnt a mistake? I rebooted. No networking. Running LSP fix... Back in 5 minutes

mswsock.dll
winrnr.dll
nwprovau.dll

I have had issues with screwy user permissions on this computer in the past and used a MS Fix-It to straighten it out. SHould I log in as Administrator in Safe mode and try again maybe? Just a thought.. I'll wait and see what you think I should do next though. By the way I think combofix deleted IPSEC not sure

OK heres the deal according to the event log, these errors are in order:

DHCP Client shutting down system cannot find file specified EVID 1004 (WARNING YELLOW BOX) the rest are red error x's
NetBT Initializationd failed- device driver could not be created EVID 4311
IPv6 was started (no error)
The DHCP Client hung on starting EVID 7022
IPv6 helper service hung on starting EVID 7022
The following boot-start or system-start driver failed to load MpFilter EVID 7026 (not sure if related to networking)

I looked at the services and DHCP just says "starting". The dependencies are
AFD
NetBIOS over Tcpip
TCP/IP Protocol Driver
The latter two depend on IPSEC

All three of these are listed under "show hidden devices" in device manager and are -not- checked with any warning x's or !'s

Now what?
