Hey everyone,

I am creating a Silverlight4 HelloWorld application. When I run the application inside visual studio, it works fine. If I try to view the project in a browser, all I see is a white screen where the silverlight app should be. I can right click and see that the silverlight window is there, But I can't see anything. I read somewhere that it could be an issue with MIME types, but I checked mine and they are all fine. if anyone could help, that would be greatly appreciated. I have used code straight from msdn, and also tried this:

<object data="data:application/x-silverlight-2,"
type="application/x-silverlight-2"
width="300" height="300">
<param name="source" value="HelloWorld.xap"/>
<param name="onError" value="onSilverlightError" />
<param name="background" value="white" />
<param name="minRuntimeVersion" value="4.0.50401.0" />
<param name="autoUpgrade" value="true" />

style="text-decoration:none">

alt="Get Microsoft Silverlight" style="border-style:none"/>
</a>
</object>

I am no expert on this, but I am learning nonetheless. Which version of Silverlight are you using? I get issues with viewing Silverlight apps in Firefox sometimes when it thinks that it doesn't have the plugin available when it clearly is, and I have never quite figured out why it does that. It probably has to do with the fact that despite Microsoft's claims that Silverlight has native support for FF, it doesn't always work. Demos have crashed the entire app before, so I wouldn't bank on it working with FF.

I'm still not sure what the issue is/was but I enabled my project to run on the sample test page that visual studio makes for you on the web applications and it worked ok. But it is supposed to work the other way for me too and didn't. Using silverlight 4.

That's really strange. So did you actually get it going?

The method located here http://www.silverlight.net/learn/overview/getting-started/getting-started-with-silverlight-(hello-world) suggests the user to create a project but uncheck the host silverlight in a new web site box. For me I can get it working if I leave this checked and have my html test page in my web project folder. If I don't have it checked and try to add an hmtl page with the same code and view in browser, that is when i get the white screen. So I did the opposite as the site suggested and it worked for me. So therefore yes I did get it working in a sense. :D

Considering that it is Microsoft's tutorial app not working for you, they'd be better suited to answer your question exactly. You should sign up for the forums at http://silverlight.net, and then they could assist you from their.

I am not really worrying about it too much anymore, but thank you for answering and helping! :)
