Hello,
I seem to have found myself attacked by the Google Redirect Virus. I have been trying for days now to take care of this problem. In safe mode, I have run Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, TDSSKiller, Spybot S&D, Microsoft Safety Scanner, RKill, and SUPERAntiSpyware. Most of them found nothing. Microsoft Safety Scanner found a few things and then upon removal and restart, I got an error that something was preventing windows from starting up and I had to let it sit for a while and 'fix it'. Also, most recently attempted, SUPERAntiSpyware found a handful of things but it said they were just tracking objects that were 'not harmful'. I removed them and restarted and I still have the google redirect problem.

Also, I'm wondering if this is affecting my PS3 Media Server connection as when this problem arose, that stopped working.

Any help is MUCH appreciated. I don't know what else to do!

Hello it may be more than that.
Are you on a router? Are other machines on it,if so are they redirecting?

Do you use Firefox?

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2
  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredFix.txt).

How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

I am on a router, but the only things on it are the PC and the PS3. Yes, I am running the latest version of Firefox. Also, if it matters, I'm on Windows 7.

Upon running MiniToolBox I got this error twice:

nslookup.exe - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 1108 could not be located in the dynamic link library WSOCK32.dll.

Here are the results:

OK,nothing serious there except you need to update to Java 7 and Adobe Reader X or 10.

I hav e seen in FireFox it may be the Add ons/Plugins. try disabling them one at a time and see which one was at fault.

How to disable extensions and plugins

Keeping your third-party plugins up to date

Nothing wrong in the add-ons/plug-ins so I've moved to the next step.
Also, updated Java & Adobe Reader.
Thanks for the help, boopme!

Hello,

Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic422215.html you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.

Help us help you. If HelpBot replies, you MUST follow step 1 in its reply so we know you need help.
