Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

Then delete these files or directories:
C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\
C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\
C:\WINNT\sysupd.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\hbfejk.dll

Disable System Restore. You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

This may not work, but lets try this first.

First thing is you must update your windows service pack level to service pack 4. You are currently at service pack 2 and that may be a problem.

Goto www.windowsupdate.com and download all available critical updates. Reboot each time it asks and keep going back to that site downloading the critical updates until you get no more. This is importantn in keeping your computer secure.

Then post a new hijackthis log in which we will clean off the rest of the junk

I was only able to update 11 of the 39 critical updates and I'm not sure how to check if I am at Service Pack 4 or not, but I do now have IE version 6.1

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

Step 2:

Please Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and Run the Program. Disconnect from the Internet and close all Internet Explorer Windows. Check the "I know what I'm doing" Button and remove all traces of inetadpt.dll. Then Reboot.

Step 3:

Download Windows 2000 service pack 4 and install it. The service pack can be found here:

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

when its done let it reboot.

Step 4:

Goto http://www.windowsupdate.com and download the rest of the critical updates.

Step 5:

Post a new hijackthis log
