Hi,

I originally posted in the Am I Infected? Forum, http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic421779.html. The person who replied suggested I come here.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I know we had Open Cloud AV. Long story short, we also have other things because whatever that was put all the icons into hidden mode. So I have to select "Show Hidden Files" and I can see all the desktop icons, etc. even though they show up as hidden files would and look lighter than files that aren't hidden. Without that, it looks like I lsot everything. Nothing is on start menu, but the items are there on the disk if you search for them.

I am redirected when I use Google or any other search for both IE and Firefox. Sometimes it loads porn.

It is Windows XP Service pack 3 and I am in safe mode right now.

WHAT I DID SO FAR
I downloaded MB but it won't run more than 12 seconds with rename, USB, or other tricks. It will only run once off the desktop and then starts giving me error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I used SAS and it found Open Cloud and Koobface before it cut off abruptly. I went in and deleted the EXEs it listed, but all antivirus scanning programs terminate before they complete, so nothing is removed with a tool. SAS will not run a second time, giving me an error that it already ran, etc. etc. Even if I could run it, it's likely to terminate anyway.

Rootkit finds nothing and TDSS found something, but I didn't catch what it was. I also ran ESET, which is an online scanner, but it terminated before completion. It mostly found cookies but did find something with #disableTaskManager. I could not locate that to delete it manually.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY
The two .txt files are attached. But I cannot run GMER. It starts to scan but then shuts down before it finishes.

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it! This is the computer my little boy uses for his school. When it is not in operation, he can't interact with his teacher or use it for the various programs on it.

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links.

Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

Hi,

I was happy to see your reply!

When I turned on the computer it was a blank screen with a blinking cursor. It would not boot so I used the restore disk. I can see my old programs still on the disk just hidden, so I wondered if the restore would take care of the viruses as well.
