I've run into a problem where only certain disks are being read by my computer. I have no problem writing/reading a dvd-r or watching dvds.

I recently tried to load a game on my computer and it would recognize the disk, but then it'd just sit there until finally a prompt said that no disk was in the drive. I've had this game loaded on my computer before with no problem. I tried loading another game with no problem whatsoever.

Does anyone know what this issue might be?

I have an emachines w3644 if that's any help.

Bad DVD drive or bad media. Optical readers get finicky.

Hello! It seems there are many things to check to figure out the problem, here.

1.) Update your drivers.
2.) Update your media player. (Check out VLC player as well)
3.) Be sure the CDs/DVDs you are playing have very few scratches and smudges on them.
4.) Clean the lense with one of these things: http://www.amazon.com/Endust-Electronics-Console-Cleaner-262000/dp/B003EEMDMC/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_3 OR http://www.amazon.com/Maxell-DVD-LC-Lens-Cleaner-Blue/dp/B00000JPPI
5.) Replace drive.
