Running: Windows XP SP3, Dell Inspiron 1501.

So on Friday, I noticed Google Chrome slowing WAY down, so I opened up Task Manager and saw the issue with svchost.exe.

After restarting the laptop, it worked fine for about 20 minutes. Then it was almost frozen. I opened Task Manager again, and found svchost.exe running just below 500k memory and almost 100% of the CPU.

I tried a system restore to a safe point, but it was incomplete upon reboot.

Is this a known issue? Anyone able to guide me through fixing it? Thanks in advance,

- iiaok

If any process is using 100% of the cpu my first thought is always malware. I suggest you post in the Am I Infected forum - let's make sure one way or the other.
