problem is on an HP laptop running windows 7. my 4 year old was playing a free version of a game when we were asked if we wanted to post our score. for some reason I clicked "ok" and I think that's when screen went black only showing cursor and a clicking sound like someone typing was being emitted. A friend suggested that I turn laptop off, remove battery for 20 min or so and then hold down start with no battery for 20 secs. Did this twice and no changes. Friend said hard drive needs to be replaced

Before taking the laptop in to diagnose or replace the hard drive, try using some of Window's 7 system recovery tools.
