use Wired laptop as wireless adhoc

Hi all. i am networking retarded-ish and was wondering if it was possible to use a laptop attached to a cabled network as a wireless adhoc. basically, my laptop has a cat5 to connect to a hotels internet but there is only one cable, so can my friends laptop connect to the internet, through my laptops wifi?
