Internet Dial Up locks Up

When connecting to Earthlink on dial up it authenticates and I can hear the modem dialing and connecting, but then it says registering your computer on the network and then the screen freezes. The system works fine at the office where I connect through a cable high speed network but when I take the desktop back home where I only have dial up, the computer locks up. I am running Windows XP and have updated through microsoft.

Can you do the following:

Go to Start then All Programs find Accessories then open up Command Prompt

in the box that comes up type in ipconfig /all >> c:\ipconfig.txt

Open the file up in notepad then copy and paste it.

Do this while trying to connect and while disconnected.

It is showing Media State........... Media Disconnected
I also tried ipconfig/renew and it says "no operation can be preformed on the local area connection while the media is disconnected.

/flushdns Purges the DNS Resolver cache.
/registerdns Refreshes all DHCP leases and re-registers DNS names
/displaydns Display the contents of the DNS Resolver Cache.
/showclassid Displays all the dhcp class IDs allowed for adapter.
/setclassid Modifies the dhcp class id.

The default is to display only the IP address, subnet mask and

This is what shows while disconnected. If I try to connect it locks up and I have no mouse or keyboard and therefore cant' type the ipconfig etc.

You missed the arrows:

ipconfig /all >> c:\ipconfig.txt

As per the below, the first thing I did was go to a C prompt.
On the next line I tried the >> as per your suggestion but it just took me back to a C prompt: Thats the 3rd line below.
I then contuned to type on that line with spaces instead of >> and it gave me the below starting with Error:

Now go to the C Drive via My Computer and open up ipconfig.txt in notepad.
