I'm running Windows ME and Aol, just the past 2 days sometimes when I sign on to one
of my screen names and open mail I get a gray screen and my computer freezes. I've run my
spybot and adaware. Can you tell me what might be causing this?
Thank you!!

Start by running Disk Cleanup. Start>Program Files>Accessiories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup. See if that helps.
How much system RAM do you have installed? What antivirus & antispyware are you running, and are they up to date?

Have yo updated or install any programs since the problem started? What is running at start up. Start>Run>msconfig>Startup (tab). Try disabling all but essentical programs. You can always reactivate them if you decide later you need them.
How much RAM do you have?

hi

no new programs since this started happening
and it just happened when i booted up and tried to open my explorer
I rebooted and it seems fine now, just a little slow

my ram is 319.0

my start ups are running at only the neccessary things i believe

(when i try to burn a cd, it will open to accept the cd but then it doesnt seem to read it)

one more question while i have your attention, my son got me a cordless mouse last year
and it seems to be going through batteries like crazy, is this normal...is there some way to keep them
from draining the batteries when not in use that you know of?

thanks so much for your help

Norton is a huge resource hogg. I'm sure you have been using it for a while, and with that said probabily is not you problem.
I ditched my cordless mouse/keyboard 4 years ago. NOT AS ADVERTISED! Liked the idea but feel short in practice.

Yes. Anyone of these freeware AV will work as well if not better without the resource pently...

Antivirus (Run only one.)
AVG Free Edition Antivirus (I personally use)
Avast Home Edition Antivirus Freeware
AntiVir Personal Edition Classic Freeware
BitDefender 8 Free Edition
