Hi Ricorocks,

:welcome: to Bleeping Computer.

My name is Jason and I'll be helping you with your computer problems. You can call me by my screename jntkwx or Jason is fine.

Some things to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please do not attach logs or put logs in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can also help.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.
  • If you don't understand a step, please ask for clarification before continuing with any future steps.

Click on the Watch Topic button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

Note to others: The instructions here are intended for the person who began this topic. If you need help, please create your own topic in the appropriate forum.

:step1: Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List last 10 Event Viewer Log Errors
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go . Please put code boxes around ONLY this entire log, like this, but without the letter x: [xcode] MiniToolBox log [/xcode]

:step2: Download rkill from one of the following downloads (if you are unable to download or run rkill from one download, move to the next one.)

1. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.com
2. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.pif
3. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr
4. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/eXplorer.exe
5. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/iExplore.exe
6. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/uSeRiNiT.exe
7. http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/WiNlOgOn.exe
8. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/rkill.exe
9. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/rkill.com
10. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/rkill.scr
11. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/eXplorer.exe
12. http://www.boredomsoft.org/hosted/iExplore.exe

Please be patient while Rkill looks for various malware programs and ends them. When it has finished, the black window will automatically close and you can continue with the next step. If it appears like Rkill did not stop the malware from running, please try running RKill again until the malware is no longer running.

Do not reboot your computer after running RKill as the malware programs will start again!

:step3: Rerun Malwarebytes
Open Malwarebytes, click on the Update tab, and click the check for Updates button (the latest update as of this post is 7792)
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

If you have trouble updating, troubleshoot Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

:step4: Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

In your next reply, please include:
  • MiniToolBox log
  • Malwarebytes log
  • GMER log
  • How's your computer running now? Please provide a detailed description of any remaining problems, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, and/or screenshots of strange behavior.

Regards,
Jason

****Clarification****

Summary of steps prior to my first post here:

This machine was very unstable,& hung frequently, with a continuous hdd light on.

Used SuperAntiSpyware portable removed 922 threats trojans etc

Hit Man Pro hung system

chkdsk c: /R completes

HJT - I removed 9 objects

Ran MBAM 0 found

Eset online-scanner removed 7 threats

System still frequent hangs

Norton Power Eraser - with rootkit Crash

Emsisoft Emergency Kit - removed 21 traces

Windows msg "Log on has failed to create security options dialog"

MBAM updated found two Adware.MyWebSearch. two keys removed from hkeycurrent user\microsoft\windows\current version\ext\stats

Rootkit Razor Fails, GMER nothing found, but log was generated

StreamArmor - found one dangerous stream, checked stream on line removed

reboot MBAM full scan 8 items all MyWebSearch removed

Sophos - found many items all recommended not deleting

system hung reboot, using Avira Rescue CD finds 0

Back in windows MBAM quick finds two MyWebSearch at the above registry location removed

Dnld run DrWebCureIt 0 found

reboot chkdsk c: /f was done by system

back to windows MBAM full scan finds 8 MyWebSearch removed

I find NVIDIA 'Mediashield' mirrored raid. I think I'm not reaching the raid section, for cleaning & the malware is being replaced by the mirror.

reboot MBAM MyWebSearch is back

tried disable Mediashield disable service. run Mbam reboot run MBAM snd MyWebSearch is back

Eset online scanner removes 1

Try "Rkill" immediately upon entering windows. This seems to calm the system down

reboot removed AGG 8.5 install Panda Cloud, full scan finds 5 adware removed

reboot run MBAM MyWeb search is back

Next read up & follow instructions run COMBOFIX

System still unstable plus MBAM finds 2 MyWebSearch

New copy of SAS portable full scan finds 177 MyWebSearch

Reboot, reboot, reboot, reboot can't find MyWebSearch  but system still frequent hangs & still at odd times hangs with continuous HDD light on.

Next post here, malware must be causing hdd light & hangs

Next I disabled Superfetch & search (Vista 64 sp2)

reboot, reboot, reboot reboot All seems very good now!

Short version:

Combofix > SAS portable > disable superfetch > seems OK

Thanks You Very Much JASON!!!!!!

Hi Ricorocks,

Since you have already run Combofix, please follow the instructions in ==>Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide<==.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Once you have created the new topic, please reply back here with a link to the new topic.

Most importantly please be patient till you get a reply to your topic.
Regards,
Jason

Hello,

Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic420472.html you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.

Orange Blossom :cherry:
Help us help you. If HelpBot replies, you MUST follow step 1 in its reply so we know you need help.
