I recommend Avast!free, it's fast and unobtrusive.

I have it on my e-machine and my wife's laptop and it's keep us out of trouble and virus free for the past several months.

We had been using Avira but the latest version comes saddled with a Ask Toolbar which we hated and made my wife's laptop wonky.

And don't forget about Malwarebytes, they got a free version that's great.

Photobucket removed my cool flag - idiots!

You ask a common question for which you will receive varying opinions and recommendations. Please see Choosing an Anti-Virus Program.

After reading that, scroll up to the first topic posting and read Best Practices for Safe Computing - Prevention.
