Hi I'm having trouble with a very stubborn virus in Vista. Of the scanners I've tried, only Spybot will run. Everything else is blocked, even in safe mode. AdAware service won't start and I get "failed to connect to service" when I run it. Malwarebytes says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them." AVG tries to run a scan but completes after scanning 0 files in just a few seconds.

Please, any help is greatly appreciated. I am very computer literate but this is the first virus I've not been able to clean.

I also am unable to install Hijackthis. I get this message during install: "Installer has insuficient privileges to modify this file: c:\program files\trend micro\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe"

The virus is blocking everything, it seems.

Thanks for reading!
