Hello to everyone.

I can't manage to turn on Automatic Updates

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

I have tried all ways available to do this in the Security Center and the System sections in the Control Panel. I am running AVG and Malwarebytes and I just downloaded Hijackthis and have a log, but don't know what to do with it.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

I have tried all of the usual things. See attachment: Notice the text is grey. I am not allowed to click on the "turn on".

Try this link Kelly's Registry Edits for Win XP. Read on how to use the regfile then goto fix# 179 - Windows update greyed out.

With all due respect.... I am afraid to download and run this. How can I be sure that this is safe to do?

Hi -
I have been using Kelly's Korner for years and I have never had a problem yet.
Sometimes the fix may not work, but they have never harmed my systems -

Thank You -

on the file that's downloaded, if you *right* click on it, you can choose edit (in notepad), and see the keys it adds,
before you merge it into the registry.
