Hey guys,

I've been watching the forum and according to the descriptions, I'm pretty positive that I have the google redirect virus. However, nothing has come up on AVG or Malwarebyte's. I also downloaded WinPatrol recently, not that it should help after the fact.

For me, I first noticed it when I typed google.com in and I got a survey website. This hasn't happened after this initial incident. Yet, just today when I searched something, if I clicked on any of the google ads, I am redirected to a completely different site (which Malwarebyte will prevent from opening) even though it will say www.nordstroms.com in the url description.

i.e.
Canada®Goose Jackets Sale - Canada Goose for Men & Women.
www.nordstrom.com/CanadaGooseJacket
New Coats & Parka for All Occasion.

but it will redirect to something that is clearly not Nordstroms.

What should a newbie like me do?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome.

Are you on a router? Are other machines on it,if so are they redirecting?

Do you use Firefox?

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Please follow our Removal Guide here How to remove Google Redirects. You will move to the Automated Removal Instructions

If it finds something make sure Cure is selected
Next click Continue then Reboot now
A log file should be created on your C: drive named "TDSSKiller.txt" please copy and paste the contents in your next reply.

Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:

Open MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when done
click Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode).
After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.

Please ask any needed questions, post logs and Let us know how the PC is running now.
