So I have a Toshiba P755-S5270 and I just noticed in addition to the GT540M I got it with, it also comes with 1GB GDDR3 discrete graphics memory ... Does it use BOTH in tandem? That's would be amazing.... but is it true or does it just use the one that is needed at the time?

You have a graphics card that uses discrete memory rather than shared form system memory.

The 1GB GDDR3 discrete graphics memory phrase just mean that you have a 1Gb equipped video card.

Video chip = GT540M
Video card memory = 1GB GDDR3

If that makes it any clearer.

The only Toshiba laptops I ever saw with two video cards are in some of the Qosmio models and not in the Satellite models

The Satellite models are mainstream and the Qosmio is the high end models?

I believe it runs, Satellite, Satellite Pro, Portege, Qosmio. More or less

I've seen Qosmios with dual SLI video cards, Spurs engine to aid in Decoding BluRay as well as Video encoding. SubWoofer etc. I believe dual hard drives too. Right now I believe they have gone to a single video card again.

Just as an example: http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptop-finder?features=Gaming
