When I click on any google link I get redirected to other sites. I've seen this question asked before but didn't know if I needed more specific help dependng on the type of computer I have...

I appreciate any assistance to remove this annoying problem.

Thank you!

Hello and welcome. Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:
  • Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I’ve given you the “All clear.” Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean!
  • Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.
  • Any underlined text in my posts indicates a clickable link.
  • If you have any questions at all, please stop and ask before proceeding.
Posted Image Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.

DDS.scr
DDS.com
DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
---------------------------------------------------
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.
Posted Image Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop.
  • Double click the exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.

    Posted Image
Click the image to enlarge it

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

If you have trouble running GEMR:
  • Make sure that your security software is disabled
  • Uncheck the box next to "Files" this time also
  • If you still can't run it, try in the Safe Mode
Please include the following in your next post:
  • DDS.txt and Attach.txt logs
  • GMER log

Threads are closed after 5 days of inactivity.

when I ran the gmer the boxes were already correctly unchecked... but most of the others were unchecked also. does that matter? they were grayed out and would not allow me to check them.

I scanned all three files using the first link you provided for the virus scan. The results are as follows:

C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\c\program files (x86)\Skype\Plugin Manager\SkypePM.exe.vir
The above file scanned and the scan was clear of all viruses

C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\c\users\Kristie\AppData\Local\BluetoothEventOffice\Agerecfg64.dll.vir
THe above file scanned and found multiple threats/viruses- The report is attached below

C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\c\windows\SysWow64\comct332.ocx.vir
The above file scanned but said it had been scanned previously and would not let me scan it again. It kept freezing up so I used the second link you provided for the virus scan and it would not let me do it either.

I've also attached the mbam file below.

just realized the result of the virus scan did not save right on wordpad. Is there another way I can send it? I didn't see anywhere on the site where you could save the info so I just copied and pasted the info into a document.. It was all jumbled.

kbrennan:

That's OK, I got what I needed. Please do this next:

Posted Image Open Notepad Go to Start> All Programs> Accessories> Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad ) and copy all the text inside the Codebox by highlighting it all and pressing CTRL C on your keyboard, then paste it into Notepad, make sure there is no space before and above DeQuarantine::

DeQuarantine::
C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\c\program files (x86)\Skype\Plugin Manager\SkypePM.exe.vir
C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\c\windows\SysWow64\comct332.ocx.vir
Quit::

Save this as CFScript to your desktop.

Then disable your security programs and drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. If it asks to update, please allow it to. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.

Please include the following in your next post:
  • ComboFix log

kbrennan:

Yes, that was right. How is your computer running now? Please do this next:

Posted Image Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Java™ can be updated from the Java control panel Start > Control Panel (Classic View) > Java (looks like a coffee cup) > Update Tab > Update Now. An update should begin; follow the prompts. If it does not, let me know.

Once the install is complete...

Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
  • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
  • Next, click on the Delete Files button
  • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
    • Applications and Applets
    • Trace and Log Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
Posted Image Please go to here to run an online scan with ESET.
    • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
    • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
    • Click Start
    • When asked, allow the activex control to install
    • Click Start
    • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
    • Click on Advanced Settings and ensure these options are ticked:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • If any threats were found, click the 'List of found threats' , then click Export to text file....
  • Save it to your desktop, then please copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.
Please include the following in your next post:
  • How is the computer running now?
  • ESET log

I did not see Java on the control panel (classic view)so I just went to the website and downloaded the newest version. I also uninstalled the old one. I am unable to follow the rest of your instructions regarding java as I am unable to find it in the control panel (even after installing the new one)?? Would you like to me to continue with the online scan with ESET?
