I have to be completely honest and admitt that I am a novice. I for one would love to remove this virus from my computer, and also start to learn how to use my computer more properly. I had a surgery lately so might as well take up another hobby while I am confined to my apartment for the time being. If someone can help me scourge this virus from my computer, and help me learn to manipulate my computer better please help! I received this computer from a friend with many problems, and he has many different programs on it. I do know that it has a new McAfee security but still it's definitely got some problems. Let me know what I need to start doing, and thanks,

Enoggie

Alright I ran a DDS log, the results will be at the bottom of the page. GMER was downloaded but it offered different options then the tutorial page instructed. For one it didn't give me the option to "extract all", I chose the "extract here" option and it opened like it showed, but the features of "show all, IAE, etc." were disabled. I started to do a scan but I'm not sure it will scan the right things I need to. Thanks for all the help, and let me know what I need to be doing!

Hi enogelme, and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Firstly,
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Secondly,
Download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe.
  • In the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) paste the following in bold:

    netsvcs
    drivers32
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs

  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two Notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Hi again enogelme!!.. :)

Firstly,
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features, highlight a program to see the available option on the toolbar for it. Choose Uninstall for:
TelevisionFanatic - detected by some as a MyWebSearch adware variant, or as "Adware.Funweb", see here and here: WOT Reputation Scorecard

Two optional programs to remove (just decide if you want to keep them):

- kikin plugin 2.5 - kikin.com browser plugin. Kikin Inc is reportedly "an internet advertising company whose goal is to enhance a userís search experience without changing the user's search behavior" - comes bundled with third party software such as JDownloader and Audiograbber, source: Kikin
The kikin plug-in works by recording your browsing history, including your search results pages. While kikin never looks at terms you enter into a website, we look at the URL structure to identify terms that interest you so that we may serve relevant content to you. - Plugin Privacy Policy

- Vuze Toolbar - Ask Toolbar, not recommended and not needed for Vuze to work, see here: Event: Products with Ask Toolbar

I suggest you remove those 2 programs above... If needed/asked, please reboot...

Secondly,
Please run OTL.exe.
  • Copy the commands with file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

  • Return to OTL.exe, right click in the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Run Fix button.
  • A fix log in Notepad will appear. Copy the contents of the fix log to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTL.exe
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Thirdly,
Please follow this tutorial to show hidden files in Windows 7...

Then, please upload a file for analysis,
Right click this folder: c:\_OTL and choose: "Send to" --> "Compressed (zipped) Folder".
Upload that zipped folder for analysis: go to this site, click on Browse, and choose the zipped file, click Upload. Allow the file to be uploaded - wait till: The file has been uploaded! appears.

Do the same for these folders (zip them up and upload):

Hi again enogelme!!.. :)

With OTL.exe, you did click Run Scan instead of the red Run Fix button, hence the fix did not work...

Please do the following:

Firstly,
Perform the instructions from the second step from my last post - the fix with OTL.exe - copy & paste the fix lines into the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window and hit the red Run Fix button; post the fix log here...

Secondly,
Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer (32 bit version - Start --> All programs --> Internet Explorer) for this scan. Internet Explorer must be run as administrator - right click and choose: Run as administrator.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files (x86)\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic
