I am posting this for my son. I hope I do this correctly.
Was told to post the following log and you all would assist us in removing this spyware from our computer.
Your help is GREATLY appreciated. I am not sure if you will email directly or do we check here for updates?
THank you. Apologies if I did something wrong. Thanks!

Hi and welcome!

My name is David Posted Image

Whether you recieve notifictions or not depends on what you have selected. By default you will not recieve notifications, but there is an option to have this feature. If you have not done so, i would recommend reading this tutorial here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/33013/how-to-subscribe-to-an-existing-topic-so-you-are-notified-when-there-are-replies/
If you follow the instructions to turn this feature on, you should recieve an email notification when i reply again

Before we start downloading the necessary files, i would like you to complete this step:
Make sure that you can see hidden files (Windows XP).
  • Click "Start".
  • Click "My Computer".
  • Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
  • Select the "View" tab.
  • Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
  • Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
  • Click "Yes" to confirm.
  • Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types".
  • Click "OK".

Please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/download/rrtri.exe

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section.

Right click on 11F#`I and delete it.

Exit the program and reboot.
_______________

Download about:Buster from:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4289.html
Do not run it yet!

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items and click FIX CHECKED (if present):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00003.exe"
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {31FF080D-12A3-439A-A2EF-4BA95A3148E8} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows installer] C:\winstall.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Shell] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00003.exe"
O20 - Winlogon Notify: mmx432 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mmx432.dll
O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 11F#`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\addft.exe (file missing)

Close HiJackThis.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00003.exe <--file
C:\winstall.exe <--file
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mmx432.dll <--file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\addft.exe <--file

Double click aboutbuster.exe, click Update, click OK, click Start, then click OK

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click here to complete an online scan --> Panda ActiveScan
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Thanks for your help. We have had problems getting to the forums over the weekend due to the current PC problem (and my laptop is in the shop!)

We have been working all following all your instructions. Ad-Aware keeps locking up the computer. Its gets very far in the scan but then locks up.

Josh is home today so he will monitor it today while it scans.

Thanks!
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Can you confirm that you are running Ad-Aware and the other tools in safe mode as per my instructions? If Ad-Aware freezes, just skip it and continue on with the other steps. I would like for you to run it again in safe mode and when it freezes, find out what file is being scanned and post that back here. You can tell where to look from the following screenshot.

Let me know of any other problems with the steps I've asked you to perform. Once I can see the logs I'll know better what to do next.

David
