Ok, I think most of us know about how Outlook Express does not interpret TNEF very well. The result is receiving an attachment like winmail.dat or better yet no attachment at all. I can understand why this happens. My questions is why doesn't this happen for everyone that uses Outlook Express?

Here is the situation:

We use Outlook Express here at work. We have a customer who frequently sends spreadsheets and documents to one of our sales people. When the email comes into her Outlook Express it shows no attachment or sometimes it might show winmail.dat. I had the customer send it to me and one other person here at work and we both got the attachments without any problem. After several more tests, we always receive the attachments but she never does. We are all using Outlook Express with Win XP home edition. I cannot make sense of this. Why is ours working but hers is not?

If anyone can address this I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've compared all the settings on her computer with mine, they are identical. Also we are on the exact same versions of Windows XP and Outlook Express. Any ideas?

Check out this website:

http://www.kopf.com.br/winmail

It has some information about winmail.dat files and a freeware Winmail opener application
