I was hoping someone could help me. This is my log from HijackThis but I dont know what I should get rid of. I have had spyware on my computer for months now and I cant seem to get rid of it. This is my work laptop so I dont want to delete anything I shouldnt. The IT people here dont know how to fix it so they told me I might have to live with it (I dont think so!!). I know I have had spy sheriff, cool web, web nexus and command service. Can you help me? I have tried Ad-Aware, Spybot, SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster and Counter Spy. I am afraid that some of them have spyware in them as well because I cant get them to completely uninstall. Since this is a work computer I would prefer not to pay for the program. But if there is absolutely no other way to fix it then I will.

I also have a bunch of registry files that need to be fixed and some programs (msn messenger) that I cant completely uninstall. Can you suggest any free programs for this. I have tried registry mechanic but it just scans it then asks you to pay before it will fix the errors. Also Error Nuker, which wont get off my computer even though I have unistalled it, did the same thing. They both said I have over 200 files that needed to be repaired. What should I do? I dont really even understand what that means?
Thanks so much!!
Nicole

Hello Nicole,

Lets start out with some malware scans.

***************************************************

Please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

If malware is found, click the button "Remove Selected Malware".

Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

Let it delete whatever it finds. If it cannot delete it, then post the log and we will delete it manually.

***************************************************

I know you may have anti-virus software, but sometimes its definitions are corrupted due to malware. Online scans are the best resort in this case.
Run this pc through the
Trend Micro Housecall Online virus scanner
or
Panda Scan Online virus scanner

Let it delete whatever it finds. Post the log for me see.

***************************************************

Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

First:
Please download ewido anti-malware it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!".  Click OK.  We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Boot to the Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

Post the Ewido log, the Hijackthis log and the PandaScan log.
