The newest version of 3DMark is out. Just in time to test out my new video card.

A more comprehensive and unrestricted benchmark than previous versions, 3DMark06 includes an array of 3D graphics, CPU and 3D feature tests for overall performance measurement of current and future PC gaming systems. With this broader design approach, 3DMark06 will be the benchmark of choice for all PCs with top-of-the-line graphics hardware and CPUs.

Nab it.

I'm interested too, since I'll have the new rig set up in full by Sunday, what some good scores are. The scale on those results is insane, it's hard to tell.

The servers have been swamped with 3dMark '06 downloads. Here are a few more:
Guru 3D
Download.com
Major Geeks

The only way to really get good download speeds is to use Bittorrent from Major Geeks.

Also for those wondering what HDR really is, both Canyon Flight and Deep Freeze have HDR. You really see the HDR if you compare the Canyon Flight in '05 vs. the Canyon Flight in '06.

hmmm

I've never tried one of these benchmark programs before even after I got my new pc. I'd love to test how well the athlon 4000+ and 7800gt perform.

What kind of numbers do you get? Interested for comparison.

Is there something wrong if the fps is really crappy?

Oh okay, I think it was because it was the CPU test, I wasn't in the room to see which test it was but I was able to compare what I saw to a screenshot.

What were your CPU/SM2/SM3 scores? I got 4175 3dmarks, and I wonder, considering that 3dMark '06 is multithreaded, how big a help a dual core is.

My scores were:
SM2.0 Score: 1718
HDR/SM3.0 Score 1684
CPU Score: 1513

My scores were:
SM2.0 Score: 1840
HDR/SM3.0 Score 1822
CPU Score: 1070

It looks like the multithreading does make a difference on the CPU score but i have better scores for SM2 and HDR, i thought both of those were rendered by the graphics card and not helped by the CPU, maybe i'm wrong.

Your probably right in that the CPU doesn't really have any differance in the SM2.0 and SM3.0 scores. The higher scores you got in SM2/SM3 is probably because of your oc.

Doing a bit of oc on my card myself I got this:
SM2.0 Score: 1849
HDR/SM3.0 Score: 1815

Wow...you guys make me feel weak...

SM2.0: 982
HDR/SM3.0: 898
CPU: 833

That is with a GeForce 6800 GT AGP, 1GB RAM, AMD Athlon 64 3200+, and ASUS K8V Deluxe.

At least I was within 100 of the Guru 3D score for my card on a machine much better than mine.

did the cpu test go 0-1 fps for anybody else? Cause otherwise I would be able to post my scores.
