I have a

Compaq Presario SR5410F
Dual Core Processor E2160

I am running Windows 7 64 bit with two (2) 2GB sticks of RAM. It crashes basically whenever I am working on something important ;). When I take out one of the sticks and replace it with a 512 then everything is fine with no BSODs. I ran memtest and both sticks are fine according to the software. The manual says it can run 4 gigs with 64 bit installed, but I can't seem to get it to work without the BSODs.

Any suggestions? Thanks all!!!

Courtney

UPDATE:
Crashed again and upon restart I was left with some info.

The BSODs are really sporadic. It went almost 12 hours without one and then it was every 20 or so minutes. I need a new computer :(

I would try the following:

Download/install BlueScreenView, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html .

Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file.

When (screen comes up) scanning is done, click Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items.

Save the report as BSOD.txt.

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content and paste it into your next reply.

Try uninstalling AVG...and using an alternate AV. MSE will do.

Follow that up with running the chkdsk /r command on your Windows partition...writing down any onscreen errors that stop chkdsk /r from completing or any ohscreen error messages about problems encountered during chkdsk /r (not the end summary message).

are you sure that you are running the correct type of RAM for your system? You can check by going to www.crucial.com

@hamluis,

Hi and thanks again for your help! I am installing MSE right now :) I uninstalled AVG and then attempted to run chkdsk /r by going to start/run and then pasting chkdsk /r into the field and clicking ok....but all that happened was the DOS box popped up and then immediately closed. Am I not doing something correctly? Thanks!!

@derek.ellis

"are you sure that you are running the correct type of RAM for your system? You can check by going to www.crucial.com " Yes, I actually used crucial.com to find out what type of RAM I needed to upgrade to and made the purchase accordingly. However I did buy the RAM from a different provider.....could that be the issue? I had originally bought the ram and then had the BSOD's, so I ran memtest and it said that one of the rams had a bad block, so I sent the one bad ram back and they said that they had tested it and that it was fine but went ahead and sent me a new stick.

Thanks guys!

Been out of the loop for a minute. I ended up purchasing another computer. I never did figure out the problem but think that it had something to do with inferior RAM. My new pc runs 16GB of RAM with no issues whatsoever....which I bought from crucial :) Multitasking is awesome at 16GB!! :)

Thanks for all of your help, everyone :)
