Hi! First time on here. Thanks to all who help others on here!

My daughter's computer HP G60 laptop running Win7 64bit has not gotten win updates in months. Went to install new router and enter her password and found her running in safe mode, Anti vir was off. Tried to install updates and encountered Windows Explorer shutting down and windows update not working. Updated and ran MBAM yesterday, Anti-vir, both clean. Ran free scanner- I think it was Trend Micro House call that found some spyware and a virus, which was removed. Ran CC Cleaner. Tried a clean boot. Errors continued and eventually it would barely run even in safe mode. Right now I'm trying to copy her files (which were never backed up), mostly photos -- and am considering a reinstall.

I would like to determine if the machine is infected, if it can be cleaned or if the reinstall is necessary. Thank you so much for your assistance.

If Gmer won't run, skip it and move on.
Let me know if that went well.
