Hi guys some help please if you can.

I recently had to re-install widows XP because the laptop would not boot up for some reason. After successfully installing windows XP I am now unable to connect to the internet. I keep getting the error message "Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot Proceed".

I have also looked in device manager and noticed there are 4 yellow ? in "other devices".

I obviously can't go to windows up-date to download the drivers if this is the problem as i can't get connected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Tony.

Did you reinstall...the drivers for your networking device?

Is there only 1 item in Device Manager with a yellow question mark?

System manufacturer and model?

Louis

Look back at the software that you originally got with your computer. You will need to install the drivers from that disk...or you can look at your motherboard and search drivers for your model.

Here is the link to your drivers. Install the chipset first.

You will have to download them on another system then copy them to a jump drive or burn them onto a cd
In the beginning there was the command line.

I have downloaded the chipset but still having no joy. I am really un-sure of what I am suppose to be downloading to be honest.

It's obviously something to do with the network drivers, but where, and which ones do i specifically need ? Since i re-installed windows all of the drivers have vanished including sound, video and networking drivers. Help please !

Thanks Tony

Go here
Get the Intel Chipset & install first (you already have)
Then get the Sigma Tel audio, the modem is either the Broadcom or Conexant. Try the ATI Radeon 9800 for video. For the network try the Broadcom 440. For the WIFI it is either the 5th or 6th one on the list. Dell makes it kind of hard to actually determine which you need.

Let us know how you end up.
In the beginning there was the command line.
