custom built computer
wireless connection
Linksys WRT54G
about 10 feet
cable

about once a month for the last 8 months my computer wont be able to connect to the internet.
it says that it isn't connected to the router and it wont connect even tho i can see the router listed with a good signal.
i have to reset the router and use the secure "easy setup" thing in order to connect.
most the time it will be right when i start up my computer but a couple times my internet has started lagging really bad and then loses connection.

Can you add a second computer to your network so you can test your signal when you computer goes down? If one computer gets internet and the other doesnt, then its a computer problem. In lieu of that you might swap out your router or modem.

i guess i can try and see if the other computers can connect or not next time it happens... not sure when that will be since it seems to be random.

doesn't seem that it can connect when it happens... tho it might have just been a time run out.
for some reason the lease time was at 1500m in stead of 9999m... oh wait it is because i didn't change the settings after i reset it last time.

Hmmm... it seems possible that i am using up 9999 minutes work of connection time each month.... but i don't ever remember having this problem before.
i don't see a setting to just disable lease time and it says if i set it to 0 it will be one day.... and i turn my computer off when im not using it so im not using 9999 minutes in one sitting so shouldn't the counter reset when i reconnect to the router after my computer has been turned off?

Are you set-up for static IP addressing or DHCP? Have you tried resetting the router and re entering your settings. The Lease time on the IP address should not be a problem the computer should automatically renew the address. You could try setting-up a static address if you haven't done so already.

if i remember right static would be unchanging IP and that seems to be what i have.
i don't remember DHCP from the tech classes i took... but i don't think i have this one.

my router has the IP that the ISP has given and my router hands out a IP to each computer that i can change at will... don't remember how much of that i can change but that seems to be my set up.

i have been resetting the router... lately that is the first thing i do when my network starts acting up.
