I am running XP Home Edition on my computer. It will not shut down. When I go to Start -->shutdown, it acts like it is going to shut down but at the last moment, the HP opening screen starts back up and it opens again. I have run a scan disk and defraged the system. Any help would be appreciated.

I betcha it'll shut down if you yank the plug outta the wall! (just kidding! Don't do this!)

Here's a link on the exact procedures to follow to troubleshoot this issue: http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

It's a very long article, and very technical - but go ahead and plow through it anyway. There will be some stuff that "rings a bell" with you - let us know about that and we can help troubleshoot those specific issues.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
