I'm running Win xp pro and usually can fix the malware problems. This time I keep getting consistent pop ups of Just-In-Time Debugging a window. No matter what I do it keeps popping up. Secondly I run Zone Alarm security suite a and routinely rum malwarebytes and remove Trojans. I keep getting either a yellow or red fake Windows security alert, usually saying auto updates are not enabled. Now I'm also getting redirected when surfing the web to different sites. When looking in windows task manager toolbarupdaterservice is constantly asking for access through the firewall and something called plugin-container.exe is always running but seems strange to me.

Please help

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/416104 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

I do not have a copy of my windows cd available.
Please help

Hello rism47 and welcome to BC.

Out of curiosity, I am interested to know why do you need to install Wireshark in this computer?

==========================================

:step1: Please go to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs and uninstall StartNow Toolbar 2.0.

:step2: Download TDSSKiller.zip from Kaspersky and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract the zip file to its own folder.
  • Double click TDSSKiller.exe to run the program (Run as Administrator for Vista/Windows 7).
  • Click Start scan to start scanning.
  • If infection is detected, the default setting for "action" is Cure (Please click on it and change it to skip).
  • Click on Report to generate a log.
  • Please post that log when you reply.

:step3: Download Combofix (by Subs) from any of the links below, make sure that you save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

  • It's important to temporary disable your anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. See HERE
  • Close any open windows, including this one.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.

*It's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal.
*The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode.
*This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures. If you did not have it installed, you will see the prompt below. Choose YES.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
  • When prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the contents of the log (C:\ComboFix.txt).

Important notes:

  • Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running.
  • ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.
  • ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
  • Please do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may call it to stall.
  • ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper. See HERE.

My brother told me about wireshark. I tried to use it to see what was being sent from my pc and I tried to use it to see if I could get the server address for my Call of Duty game so I could ping it and see if my lag problem was at my end or theirs. Ill try your recommendations and let you know how I made out. Thanks

That's a good start, let's remove the leftovers.

We need to execute a ComboFix script.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy-paste the text in the code box below into it:

4. Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

5. Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

6. When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Hi,

Another Combofix script please then tell me how's the computer running.

We need to execute a ComboFix script.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy-paste the text in the code box below into it:

RegLock::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Kodak\IniFileMapping\kpcms.ini\ICC Profiles]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Monitors\//./DISPLAY1\0,0,1024,768]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Monitors\//./DISPLAY1\0,0,1280,960]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\muvee Technologies\030625\STY040419\Style Categories]

4. Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

5. Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

6. When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

:step1: Please run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Go to update tab and download all updates and then perform a full scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

:step2: ESET Online Scanner:

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

Vista/Windows 7 users: You will need to to right-click on the either the IE or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

  • Please go here to run the scan.

Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.

  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: Posted Image
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: Posted Image
  • The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close, but make sure you copy the logfile first.
  • Now click on: Posted Image
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.
Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!

Hi,

Looking good, we're almost done so please be patient. :)

:step1: Please go to http://virscan.org/
  • Navigate the following file path into the "Suspicious files to scan" box on the top of the page:

    C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Desktop\To burn\Viewsat\Zips\Hex_Workshop423.zip

  • Click on the Upload button
  • If a pop-up appears saying the file has been scanned already, please select the ReScan button.
  • Once the Scan is completed, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button. This will copy the link of the report into the Clipboard.
  • Paste the contents of the Clipboard in your next reply.

:step2: We need to execute an OTM script
  • Please download OTM by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Paste the following code under the Posted Image area. Do not include the word "Code".

    :Files
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\MyWayMyWebSearch1.zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\SmartShopper3.zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\ToolbarFacemood88.zip
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\WinBankerfgv.zip

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]

  • Push the large Posted Image button.
  • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
  • Copy/Paste the contents under the Posted Image line here in your next reply.
  • If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

When I tried uploading the file to Virusscan.org I kept getting "Error: returned status code 403 Forbidden" when trying to upload file. Its a really old file that I can just delete, I never use it. Also Old time left unhidden looking files on the desktop but then they disappeared after some time.
Also there is always a file stuck in the recently viewed menu from the start menu, its "Ksiega Ocalenia.avi" I have no idea what it is but its been stuck there for a long time.

Hi,

Sorry about the delay.

When I tried uploading the file to Virusscan.org I kept getting "Error: returned status code 403 Forbidden" when trying to upload file. Its a really old file that I can just delete, I never use it.

Please delete the said file.

What happen when you right click "Ksiega Ocalenia.avi" in the start menu and choose remove from the list?

==================================

:step1: Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system.
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 7.
  • Look for "Java SE 7".
  • Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".

    • Select "Windows x86 Offline" and click on jre-7-windows-i586.exe
  • Save it to your desktop
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Uninstall all older versions of Java (any item with Java Runtime Environment, JRE or J2SE in the name).
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Install the newest version by double clicking (run as Administrator for Windows Vista/Seven) the downloaded file.

:step2: Update Adobe Reader so you will not become vulnerable for infections.
  • Uninstall your old version of Adobe Reader.
  • Download the latest version of Adobe Reader. --> HERE
  • Uncheck any optional download like Free Google Toolbar or Free McAfeeŽ Security Scan Plus.
  • Click download to download the file and install it by following the prompts.
Adobe Download Manager FAQ | Flash Player and Reader: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/520/cpsid_52001.html

:step3: Please run DDS again and post the new report for my review, thanks.
