I had moved all my computer stuff earlier so I could dust and vacuum the area well and when I put everything back I had a problem.

At first, when I hit the power button the monitor was showing multicolored vertical lines. I opened it up and the connections all seemed ok. At some point I noticed that when I plugged in the computer the power indicator light came on even before I pressed the power button. When I couldn't figure any thing else out I tried removing the battery on the motherboard for about 10 minutes hoping that would help. Then the power light still came when I plugged it in but the monitor is black now and says no signal.

I checked the monitor on my laptop so I know that's not the problem. The fans will come on. It sounds like the hard drive comes on.

I have a compaq presario sr2011wm. Except for a replacement power supply last fall, everything is the way it came from the factory.

I'm really not sure what the problem is or how to check it. I thought it could be a problem with the video card but that didn't explain the power light issue.

Any help would be great, Thanks.

ok. I have disconnected everything except the power supply, the fans and the power switch/indicator light. The light comes on as soon as I plug in the machine and when I press the power button the fans all come on and the monitor says it's not getting a signal. Anyone have any guesses on what the problem is?
