VGA to component

I bought the vga to component converter, cables, and I can't get the laptop to appear on the plamsa, Can someone help me.

Do you mean the optional converter cable supplied by Dell? If so the specifications state that it provides s-video and composite, not component. You'll need to connect to the Composite Video Input and most likely go into the Display Properties on the laptop and extend the desktop onto the TV.

VGA to component needs more than a cable. Normally you would buy a VGA to component adapter that has electronics inside to convert the signal.
