Fujitsu Lifebook c2210

A friend asked me to replace the cd drive with another one. After doing so, the screen is just black...

Computer was powered off of course, held power button for 15-20 seconds as well.

First, I took the cd drive out, put the new one in(not new) and the screen was black. It powers on, lights up, cd drive does as well but I have no screen!

I took that cd drive back out and power cycled the machine, held power button for 15-20 seconds and left it sit for a few and it powered on and the screen worked fine.

So then I tried another cd drive. Same problem as before except I am unable to get the screen to work this time like I did after the first cd drive I tried.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

I'm trying not to open this puppy up if I don't have to, I've disassembled many laptops though so it's not a problem if it's needed. I just don't understand why the cd drives are causing me problems with the screen.

With the new CD Drive in, can you plug in an external monitor and see the desktop?
