I am trying to clean a virus off my computer and need some help. Malware bytes does not detect anything and Microsoft Security Essentials does not show anything, but I think I have a root kit. GMER crashes with a BSOD - Page Fault in a non-Paged Area, the problem seems to be caused by the following file: UFLCRAOC.SYS

Fixmbr indicates a non-standard boot record. Any ideas on how to proceed?

How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

I see no evidence of one. What makes you feel you have one?

Lets see if there is other malware.

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check Posted Image and check Remove found threats
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
    • Scan potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image

NOTE: In some instances if no malware is found there will be no log produced.

Thanks for the reply. I will run the scan this evening, as I am at work right now. In the meantime, what can you tell me about this file:

0xA8196000 C:\DOCUME~1\HP_Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\uflcraoc.sys 102400 bytes

I see that line in the rootkit unhooker log, and that is the file that was mentioned on the BSOD when I ran GMER prior to my initial post.

I thought I might have a rootkit because I was having trouble with GMER, Combofix will only run with the /nombr switch, and mbrcheck found a nonstandard or infected mbr. At that point, I stopped trying to fix the problem myself and opened this thread.

I will run the scan and post the results in a few hours.

Thanks for your help.

Scott

OK. Scan is still running. Any thoughts on my earlier questions?

It appears to be a malware file. Did you complete a ComboFix scan?

Posr the MBR log also,

Done!

It looks like the MBR is back to normal now. I'll try combofix again after the eset scan completes.

Finished the ESET scanner with no malware found. No log file was produced.

How is it running now?
How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

Things are working again, but it sometimes is really slow. I'll post the combofix log when I get home. Maybe we are through all of this.

Actually having run ComboFix we need to see that and a DDS log.

Please go here....
Preparation Guide ,do steps 6 - 9.

Create a DDS log and post it in the new topic explained in step 9 which is here Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs and not in this topic, thanks.
Skip the GMER step and instead post the ComboFix log you have.
Let me know if that went well.

If you cannot get DDS to work, please try this instead.

Please download RSIT by random/random from the link provided for your operating system and save it to your desktop.
Link 1 for 32-bit version
Link 2 for 32-bit version

Link 1 for 64-bit version
Link 2 for 64-bit versionThis tool needs to run while the computer is connected to the Internet so it can download HijackThis if it is not located on your system. If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding RSIT attempting to contact the Internet, please allow the connection.

  • Close all applications and windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.
  • Double-click on RSIT.exe to start the program.
If using Windows Vista, be sure to Run As Administrator.
  • Read the disclaimer and click Continue.
  • When the scan is complete, a text file named log.txt will automatically open in Notepad.
  • Another text file named info.txt will open minimized.
  • Save the log files to your desktop and copy/paste the contents of log.txt by highlighting everything and pressing Ctrl+C.
  • After highlighting, right-click, choose Copy and then paste the contents into a new topic in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here.
  • Copies of both log files are automatically saved in the C:\RSIT folder which the tool creates during the scan.
-- Note: Do not post the contents of info.txt in your reply. Instead, just include it as an attachment to upload using the "Browse" button in the text editor when making your reply.

Important: Be sure to mention that you tried to follow the Prep Guide but were unable to get DDS to run. If RSIT did not work, then reply back here.
