Hi,

I previously had a post in the security forum. Broni the Bear tried to help me, but he can't seem to find anything wrong based on the logs requested.

So, let me fill you in on what happened:

1. Started seeing Google results redirected.
2. Followed this kid's "Get rid of Google Redirect Virus" on Youtube. Cleared my DNS and tried the TDSSKillers. No results now, but it's still there.
3. Tried Malware Bytes and Avira Anti-Virus. Malware found some unrelated things. Avira found a bunch of trojans, but I think they respawn after delete. Upon starting my computer now, I always get spam-notices from Avira that "svchost.exe", which is infected with a Trojan, is trying to get access.
4. Broni the Bear couldn't find a solution for me. Original thread here.

Can you help me out? I've been dealing with viruses and trojans since I was in high school, but this is one that simply, absolutely stumps me. By the way, now, there is like a 1min30sec lag when my computer starts. It'll say there's a trojan detected, and then my taskbar will be frozen. After 1.30, the windows start sound will come on and my taskbar becomes accessible. This is messing my comp up :(.

Here is my requested GMR log:

Hi Gringo,

Thanks for responding. Here are my noticeable problems:

- delayed startup of windows (desktop is there, but taskbar doesn't work). antivirus states svchost.exe is infected with a trojan and trying to get access. i deny access. when i do this, google redirect doesn't happen
- slow-down when i play games. i play this game called DoTA on Warcraft 3. sometimes, in the middle of a game, it'll just start to slush up for about 8 seconds. definitely happened only after i got this virus

Aside from that, I'm not experiencing other problems. I want to get rid of this though, because it's unsettling having a virus hang around :/.

Thanks.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Hey Gringo,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I ran Combofix. I forgot to disable my firewall though. Also, I disabled auto-guard from my Avira anti-virus, but I can't terminate the program (won't allow). Shall I run it again in safemode?

I ran the program and it said that svchost.exe, winlogin.exe, and explorer.exe were ALL infected. I'm glad this thing doesn't go after the vital system executables, lol.

However, upon reset via Combofix, nothing's changed. There's still a stall upon start, svchost.exe is infected, and google results are still re-directed. Great.

Hi Gringo,

I tried following your directions. I set my F: drive to primary boot. When it boots though, I see "Acer" (is that the name of the program?). It says it doesn't work and to press a key to continue. It then goes into regular boot of windows.

Also, I want to say that I forgot to mention a change that came from this virus/trojan. When I start up my computer, After the initial screen, there is a simple, black recovery screen. At this screen, it says I have 3 options: 1 - start up the recovery console 2 - something about debugged 3 - start windows XP. If I do nothing for 3 seconds, it'll automatically start windows.

Weird =(.

Hi Gringo,

I've been looking to fight off this "SUPER TROJAN" for the longest time. Google results didn't help, the first guy on this site couldn't help, and now these diagnostic tests haven't helped either. And this last step is hard to do. And it's frustrating because this infection is beyond my knowledge.

I'm thinking of backing up my files on an external harddrive and then reformatting the computer. Is it safe to do this? (i.e. I won't get reinfected?) Even before I was hit with this virus, my computer wasn't exactly smooth, because it's over 7 years old. And even a defrag didn't help make it faster.

What do you think?

Hello

with what I was finding it may be the easiest way to fix it - most definitely the fastest.
