Hello good people of Bleepingcomputer. I was referred here by a friend and was told you are alot of help.

My problem is with my new laptop running Windows 7. I am trying to open a couple different applications and am being denied access although I am listed as "Administrator".

I followed a step-by-step to change my access by allowing myself to have "Full Control" but when it goes through files many of them say "Access Denied" and I have to click "Ok" a thousand times.

I fear that I've already picked up something nasty on my machine. I have downloaded Spybot and it's giving me the below information after clicking the "Fix Above" button:
-An error occured while trying to archive into the quarantine. Cannot create file "C:\Quarantine.reg". Access is denied
-An error occured while trying to archive into the quarantine. Cannot create file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2\Quarantine.reg". Access is denied

The second one repeats 2 more times.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Did you install Spy Bot Search and Destroy with admin rights?

This may sound like a stupid question, however: When you go to run Spybot do you right click on it and select run as Administrator? Same question on the other programs that give a problem.

It really sounds like the programs are not being given administrator access.

I agree with rotor123. It is imperative to right-click and run as administrator in Windows 7. It elevates your session to a true adminstrator level. Just being logged in with an administrator account is no longer suffecient privileges.

Just checked all apps that I couldn't open and have to say I feel a little stupid. I had no idea you to now do this with Windows 7.

I can't thank you guys enough for your help. It is greatly appreciated!

Cheers!
