Gateway DX4200
Vista Premium
HDD: WD Caviar SE16

So spybot was requesting a registry change with probably flash and he allowed change >>> blue screen.

On 1st reboot, windows failed to boot, windows error recovery screen, ran normal, black screen. No cursor, HDD is just running on. everything seems fine except for a black screen.

On 2nd reboot, windows failed to boot, windows error recovery screen, ran fix, black screen. No cursor, HDD is just running on. everything seems fine except for a black screen. Does not fix...

Where do I go from here? Try to boot from disk? Yikes... much stuff lost because someone doesn't believe in back-ups.. maybe they will now :)

Sadly it sounds like spybot may have deleted a req system file. Try booting from disc and run a repair instead of a new installation. If not, you may have to reinstall.

Sounds like the HD is good, so you can boot it in another PC to save any files needed before the format.
