Task manager didn't active

Please provide a suitable solution for my problem...

System work in xp professional platform.512 memory(400bus speed),xp 300 processor, Amd athalon without graphic card...
Mostly infected with virus programs which damages files and its associates...
system files also targeted. System shutdown goes really a burden function. each and every programs required large portion of memory but also performance goes down alternatively. Mainly infected with small programs... after then it blocks registry function...so shows a message of 'Blocked by administrator' . Also not get Windows Task Manager. kindly provide me a suitable solution
How can i protect the system from virus...

Moved from XP to Am I infected.
